When it comes to building engines BMW is not a company to underestimate, and their four wins in the most recent International Engine of the Year Awards is a testament to their abilities. The BMW i8’s drive unit was awarded two wins in its class along with being the overall winner. Wins by the BMW M3 engine and BMW M4 engine helped to establish their positions of power.
Thanks to its three-cylinder, BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, the BMW i8 unit won class winner and the whole drive unit was awarded as the best “new engine”, largely thanks to its electric motor and petrol engine. The BMW M3 and BMW M4 M TwinPower six-cylinder in-line petrol engines also took home first place in the 2.5 to 3.0-litre displacement category.
This year’s success in a variety of categories only bolsters the prosperous potential of the Efficient Dynamics technology package, which has consistently improved both fuel efficiency and driving pleasure.
The International Engine of the Year Awards started in 1999 and since then BMW has taken home 66 class and overall wins for their models engines. The winners are chosen by a large panel of 65 motor journalists from 31 different countries who meticulously collaborate to determine which engines are superior.
BMW Individual 7 Series
The BMW brand knows that it is important for owners to feel as though their vehicle is a reflection of who they are; a true representation of their unique personality and style. BMW 7 Series Launch Film
BMW has recently released the official launch film for the all-new BMW 7 Series. The five and a half minute video show a variety of shots of the 7 Series driving through different settings along with segments showing off the different features of the car. Available features like a touchscreen key with remote control parking, BMW touch command, BMW gesture control, and many more are all shown.

May Proves Positive for BMW Sales
The month of May proved to be a positive one for BMW. Sales for the brand’s vehicles increased 4.7 percent in May, increasing from the 29,602 sold in May 2014 to 31,003 in May 2015. Noteworthy vehicle sales included the BMW 3 / 4 series which saw a 17.9 percent increase to 12,868 vehicles sold. The 2 Series also had a 16.9 percent increase to 1,119 vehicles along with the X5 increasing 34.4 percent to 5,797 vehicles sold.
“The summer driving season is getting underway and judging by the record May for BMW it’s clear the demand is still strong for new cars across the U.S.” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The momentum continues as we celebrate 40 years of the iconic BMW 3 Series and look for more news to come from BMW in the days ahead.”
Overall the BMW group in the U.S. saw May sales reaching 36,836, a 4.3 percent increase from the 35,331 vehicles sold in May 2014.
Pre-owned sales were also up, increasing 21 percent compared May 2014 and year-to-date sales increasing 25.2 percent compared to the same time period in 2014.
#BMWStories – Chris Willett
When Chris Willett received a 1995 BMW 318ti as his first car, his love for the BMW brand was born. Over the years, that love grew and he continued to collect his favorite BMW vehicles. As an enthusiast of the brand, he became involved with the BMW club, which eventually led to his passion for the brand turning into an extremely successful business.
Willett had spent years working in the corporate world and was looking for a change when fellow enthusiasts at the BMW club began talking about how they were looking for a place to get their classic vehicles modified. As a result, Willett teamed up with a friend of his who was a technician and they opened a hobby shop where they worked exclusively on vintage BMW vehicle. Their shop quickly gained a reputation and it grew to become a successful well-known restoration shop.

It was a glorious spring day in mid-April; so you would figure that most people in north Jersey would be out and about enjoying the sunshine. Instead, a crew of just over 100 individuals chose to skip the sunshine and take a tour of the BMW VDC (Vehicle Distribution Center) on the Jersey City New Jersey coastline. This group makes up the NJ Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America Foundation…individuals who live, breathe and speak BMW 24/7. They were accompanied by a crew from Flemington BMW whose donations and sponsorship made this day possible.
“I was extremely pleased with the event as a whole,” stated Paul Ngai, former VP of the NJ Chapter of the National BMW Car Club of America and organizer of this event. “We have to thank the folks at the BMW VDC Center for opening up their doors and their knowledge to our most distinguished group. I also have to thank the BMW Performance Center for their donation as well as Byron Brisby Jr., General Manager of Flemington BMW and Executive Vice President of the Flemington Car & Truck Country for sponsoring lunch, providing two all-expense paid, one day driving school packages and generating a spring board to maximizing our donations. ”
The BMW Car Club of America Foundation, dedicated to the Promotion of Safety and the Preservation of BMW History, raised $5000 that April 18th through silent auctions and donations from its members (their goal was $3000). At the start of lunch, the donation level was at $2980 when Byron Brisby Jr. of Flemington BMW boldly promised to match any additional donations for the remainder of the day. From that point forward $1010 in additional donations were recorded. Brisby matched that amount with another $1010 from his organization bringing them to the $5000 total.
“It was certainly a fun day for all those involved,” said Brisby. “ There is so much to be said for all the services this organization provides from a Teen School that teaches safety maneuvering in real word scenarios to a BMW Performance Center designed to fulfill the dreams of driving enthusiast, among others. We’re happy to do our part in maintaining the history of this great BMW brand and contributing to these potentially life- saving driving programs.”
The BMW VDC Center in Jersey City is one of four BMW VDC Center’s in the country and is the point of entry for all BMW’s, Mini’s and Rolls Royce Models in the United States. The VDC is not only a distribution center but a quality control center for the above mentioned models providing quality assurance for these vehicles before they are delivered to area dealers.
