January Sales Released by BMW
The BMW brand has announced that they sold a total of 18,082 units throughout January providing quite the start to the new year. Several of the brand’s models helped to achieve this overall total thanks to their significant sales results for January. The models include 2 Series with a 89 percent increase to reach 710 units, the 5 Series with a 13 percent increase to reach 3,795 units, the 7 Series with a 33 percent increase to reach 847 units, the X1 with a 274 percent increase to reach 1,937 units, and the X3 with a 49 percent increase to reach 2,002 units.
“As expected, January suffered a bit from the strong storms that froze large parts of the country,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “In spite of the obstacles, the new BMW X1 showed extraordinary growth and our 7 Series and X3 set the momentum we expect to continue in the year ahead.”

Diesel Engines: Fact vs. Fiction
Diesel engines are grossly misunderstood, like Ozzy Osbourne’s lyrics or the proper way to knot a bow tie. And as such, they’ve long fielded a bad, often inaccurate, rap as a power source for passenger vehicles.
The very mention of a diesel engine typically conjures up an image of a heavy-duty pickup truck or farm equipment; former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t known as “The Diesel” for his grace and agility. But the modern diesel engine has little in common with its older siblings, so the time has arrived to dispel nagging myths, set the record straight and cast aside all preconceptions.
Fiction: Hybrids boast unsurpassed fuel economy
Fact: Sure, hybrid vehicles operate efficiently. But diesel engines deliver equal or improved fuel economy, while easily outdistancing traditional gas engines by as much as 20-30% for similar models. Diesel fuel is extremely energy dense, rooted in a highly efficient process that wastes substantially less power and puts savings at the pump in consumers’ wallets. Fiction: Diesel engines are unfriendly to the environment

BMW i3 EV to Increase Range to 120 miles
Automotive News reported that BMW plans to upgrade the battery pack in the i3 electric vehicle this summer, along with several other unannounced upgrades. This upgrade will provide the third best-selling electric vehicle with a 50% increase in mile range, taking it from 81 miles to approximately 120. This estimate is without considering the optional gasoline three-cylinder engine that would add an additional 80 miles.
While cars like the Nissan LEAF and Chevy Bolt may be less expensive, it’s obvious that the i3 is blowing other vehicles out of the water when it comes to the ever-important “cool-factor.” Stylish features include a floating screen, swoopy interior lines, and open-pore wood on the dash that ages with the car.

BMW Reported Total Sales For 2015
BMW is pleased to report that their total sales for 2015 came to 346,023 units, which is not only 1.8 percent higher than 2014 but it is also a new annual sales record for the brand. For sales in December alone, total sales reached 34,625 units.
“The new sales record in 2015 is the third record year in a row for BMW with the numbers further emphasizing the growth of luxury trucks, which are now one-third of BMW sales in the U.S.” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “I fully expect our Sports Activity Vehicles to be the key driver of growth in the new year with both demand and availability increasing. As the maker of the Ultimate Driving Machine, the record sales of our high-performance BMW M brand in the U.S. is especially satisfying and we are looking forward to the new M4 GTS and the all-new M2 coming this year.”
BMW December Sales:
- i3 sales were up 40.4 percent with 1,422 units
- i8 sales were up 315.2 percent with 656 units
- X3 sale were up 11.8 percent with 3,126 units
- X4 were up 7.8 percent with 884 units
- X5 sales were up 2.5 percent with 6,250 units
- X6 were up 237.8 percent with 1,547 units
- 2 Series sales were up 196 percent with 2,143 units
- 4 Series sales came to 5,601 units
- 6 Series sales were up 64.2 percent with 1,461 units
- 7 Series were up 15.5 percent with 1,266 units
- Z4 sales were up 50.6 percent with 243 units
