BMW Clean Diesel Clearly Better
Think you know everything about diesel engines?
Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged with the new Clean Diesel engines from BMW.
Myth #1: Diesels are less environmental
That might have been true once, but the Clean Diesel engines from BMW actually deliver 14% fewer emissions than their gas-driven counterparts, at just 279 g/mi. Plus, modern diesel fuel now contains 97% less sulfur than it did in the past, leading to a cleaner, greener engine all round.
Myth #2: Diesels lack power
You’ll never need to compromise on performance in the latest generation Clean Diesels from BMW. Need proof? The new BMW 535d delivers 413 lb/ft of torque - that’s more foot pounds of torque than a Ferrari California. Plus, at 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, it can more than match any car in its class for acceleration – for example, 0-60 takes 7.9 seconds for the Mercedes-Benz E-250 Bluetec.
Myth #3: Hybrids are the best for fuel efficiency
How about 675 miles on a full tank for a luxury sedan? Diesels were made for long distance driving, and the 328d gets a 45 highway mpg rating, compared to 39 highway miles for the Lexus ES 300h. The 328d also compares favorably with other diesels in its class – 45 highway miles, compared with 43 for the Passat 2.0l TDI.
Myth #4: You can’t get diesel in the US
There are actually over 90,000 diesel pumps located all across the US – so you’ll easily find a diesel pump on those few occasions that you need to refill. Plus, all BMW Clean Diesel cars come with the styling, comfort and luxury that you expect from the Ultimate Driving Machine.
