Happy Spring! Everyone knows that April is infamous for wet weather and we want to help you and your BMW get prepared for what’s to come! This week, we have put together a list of things to ensure you know when it comes to driving in the rain and things you should be watching out for. We encourage you to take some time to freshen up on these tips and put them to good use. Oh, and don’t forget to snag a service offer and schedule an appointment to ensure that your BMW is healthy and happy to take on all of your spring road trips! We hope to see you soon!

Wait Until The Weather Clears

  • If you don’t feel comfortable behind the wheel during rain showers, postpone your travels and wait until the weather clears before heading out. There is no reason to put yourself in dangerous situations if not necessary.

Double Check Your Vehicle

  • It’s important to check your vehicle’s health year-round, but when it comes to April showers, we want to be looking for specific things. For example, we need to check our head and tail lights, windshield wipers, and our tires to ensure they’re not balding. Bald tires can reduce traction on wet roadways.

Slow It Down

  • As you should always adhere to the posted speed limit, when the roadway is wet, this is crucial. We encourage you to drive considerably slower since wet roads are dangerous and your vehicle reacts slower when it rains.

Maintain A Safe Distance Between Cars

  • As we said above, your vehicle reacts slower when it rains so it’s important to give yourself a little extra space between vehicles. You should leave several car lengths between you and the vehicle you are following.

Avoid Standing Water

  • Driving your vehicle through standstill water can cause hydroplaning and other dangerous situations for your vehicle. If you approach a puddle, wait for other vehicles to pass and avoid the area by changing lanes or steering around.

Welcome back to another week of helpful BMW information! This week we are discussing all things spring service! Spring will officially be here at the end of the week and that probably means that you’re thinking about taking a road trip or an adventure behind the wheel of your beloved BMW. Before you hit the road, we encourage you to hurry in and have your vehicle serviced. The winter season is known for doing damage to your vehicle and it’s important to get the green light from our service team before hitting the road! Let’s get started on those springtime service tips!
Wash Your Ride

  • As temperatures are warming up, it’s important to visit the car wash and treat your vehicle to a little TLC. Make sure to wash the undercarriage of your vehicle to get rid of any winter buildup and debris. It’s also a great idea to have the interior of your vehicle detailed to ensure a fresh, clean start to spring.

Check Your Battery

  • Wintertime is known for making batteries weak and it’s important to have your battery tested to ensure its health. Also, if your battery is older than four years old, it’s a good rule of thumb to invest in a new one.

Fill Up The Fluids

  • During the winter, your vehicle’s fluids tend to drain easily and quickly. And with spring around the corner, you should be stopping in to have your fluids topped off and be sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid too.

Inspect & Align Your Tires

  • Winter driving can be brutal on your tires and it’s important to ensure that there are no leaks, bulges, and lack of tread on your tires. Stop in and allow our team to inspect your tires, fill up to proper PSI levels, rotate and align them.

Get Under The Hood

  • While we’re at it, pop open the hood (when cold) and give everything underneath a good look over. Inspect hoses, belts, caps, air filters, and make sure they are not cracked or damaged. If they are, be sure to schedule an appointment and have them replaced as soon as possible. Also, make sure your air filters are replaced so your air conditioning is ready when warm weather is officially here.

Your guide to having an easy car buying experience is waiting for you right here on this week’s blog. Whether you were hoping to upgrade into a brand new BMW this month or were just thinking about it – we have tips that will help make your next purchase easier than ever before. Check out all of those details below, choose your next BMW in our inventory, and stop in to see our team right here at Flemington BMW!
Get Pre-Approved: getting a pre-approved auto loan before stopping in to see our team will speed up the buying process and keep you from waiting long periods of time while we’re dealing with the bank. Also, we recommend getting pre-approved before even starting your vehicle search, so you will have a better idea of your budget and what types of models you can afford.
Know The Value of Your Trade: planning to trade in your old vehicle? Do a little research before stopping in. Not only is this beneficial for you, knowing your vehicle’s trade value can help you negotiate the deal and in some situations, can get you a lower payment. There are many tools available to you to use for research and find your vehicle’s trade value. A trade appraisal will also work as a starting point when it comes time to discuss your trade.
Personal Identification: the paperwork process can be a pain in the butt and we recommend bringing in the right items on the first purchase visit in order to ensure a quick, pain-free process. Be sure to bring in your driver’s license, proof of insurance, current registration, and the title to your trade (if you are trading in a vehicle.) These are all necessary in order to get you out the door with your new car and if you end up forgetting any, the process can be held up.
Review Your Deal: before you sign on the dotted line, you need to know what you are paying for, how much, and for how long. If you are going to be shelling out cash, you should know exactly what you are paying for. Don’t be afraid to ask questions before signing on the line and if you don’t understand something – it is your salesman’s job to explain all of those nitty-gritty details. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Take a Test Drive: we sure hope no one would ever purchase a vehicle without taking a test drive but if that’s the case, let us recommend taking one! A test drive is the most important thing to do before buying. This is a big investment and if you are not 100 percent happy, it’ll be a waste of time and money on your end! Even if you have to test drive the vehicle a few times and ask a million questions, it is better that you get everything you want than just agreeing to something you think you will like.

Has the thought of upgrading your vehicle been on your mind this winter?! The team at Flemington BMW wants to be the ones to make that happen for you before spring has sprung! Snow, snow, and some more snow! While you’re still digging out at home, we’re starting to dig out at the dealership. But we still want to help you conquer the snow once you’re finally dug out. On this week’s blog, you will find a few snow driving tips that will aid you this winter. We encourage you to refresh and learn these tips if they’re new to you and hurry on over to our service scheduler to schedule your next service appointment to ensure that your BMW is ready for the last few weeks of winter! Let’s get started on those driving tips first though!

Drive Smooth

  • Be deliberate, gentle, and gradual. It’s important to drive smoothly and make no jerky movements that can cause an accident slip on the road. A good life hack is to pretend you’re driving with a hot cup of coffee in your lap and you don’t want to spill it.

Look Ahead & Look Here

  • When roads get more slippery, you should be looking farther down the road and anticipate what to do next. If there are turns, slow way down. When roads are wet, allow double the stopping distance and triple with snow, and even more with ice. Use extra caution and concentration. If you feel your vehicle beginning to slide, always look where you want your vehicle to go, not where it’s heading at the current moment.

Deal With Skids

  • When skids happen, it’s important not to panic, stay calm, and don’t stab on the brakes. For a front-wheel skid, ease off the gas, in a moment or two, the wheels should regain traction. Then aim where you want to go as your traction returns. For rear skids, quickly turn the steering wheel in the same direction the rear is sliding. Ease off the gas and brakes. Steer back in the original direction when you regain traction.

Constantly Assess Traction

  • During a snowy/ icy drive, it’s important to continuously assess your traction situation. If your vehicle is equipped with ABS systems, traction-control systems, or stability-control systems, your vehicle is more likely to have a successful trip. But don’t rely strictly on these systems. It’s important to stay vigilant and cautious when on the road.

Temperatures are dropping here at Flemington BMW, and we want to help you have a successful winter season! Check out our five tips below and be sure to put them to good use this January and February! And if you’re in the market for a brand new BMW, you know where to find your favorite BMW team. Browse our online inventory and hurry on in to take advantage of great incentives happening only right here at Flemington BMW! We hope to see you soon!

Emergency Kit:

  • It’s always a good idea to be prepared in the event of an emergency, especially in the winter months. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, warm hat, gloves, and extra socks in your vehicle. It’s a good idea to keep a blanket, phone charger, flashlight, bottle of water, and a small non perishable snack.

Stop Foggy Windows:

  • Foggy windows are no stranger in the winter season. And they can lead to potentially dangerous situations. Roll down your windows to quickly defog those windows or keep a clean chalkboard eraser in your vehicle to wipe away the fog.

Keep Yourself From Getting Stuck:

  • If your vehicle is a little on the lighter side, we encourage you to place a few bags of kitty litter in the back of your vehicle or trunk. This will aid in traction in the rear of your vehicle. And also keep a small shovel in the event you get stuck.

Keep The Underside Of Your Vehicle Clean:

  • It’s important to keep your vehicle clean all year long, but it’s especially important to keep the underside of your vehicle clean during the winter. Dirt, salt, and ice can accumulate underneath and cause erosion. Get a car wash on a warmer day and park your vehicle in the garage.

Avoid Frozen Wiper Blades:

  • Whether it’s a little snow or ice, no one likes frozen over wiper blades. We recommend leaving your wiper blades propped up when your vehicle is in park or place a pair of socks over the blades to keep them from freezing.
