Total 2016 sales for the BMW brand amounted to 313,177 units in 2016 and December sales alone reached an overall total of 32,835 units. The two best sellers for December were the X1 and the 3 Series. Sales of the X1 skyrocketed up 136.6 percent to reach 4,185 units while sales of the 3 Series also rose by 28.1 percent to reach 6,740 units.
“December set a new record for our Sports Activity Vehicle sales in the U.S., exceeding 50 percent for the first time ever and firmly anchoring 2016 as the growth year for SAV’s in the Premium Segment,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The New Year brings optimism for the year ahead and now we’re looking forward to the Detroit Auto Show next week and the launch of our brilliant, all-new 5 Series.”

- 2 Series sales came to 1,085 units
- 4 Series sales came to 3,634 units
- 5 Series sales came to 2,115 units
- 6 Series sales came to 348 units
- 7 Series sales were up 3.7 percent to reach 1,313 units
- I3 sales came to 791 units
- I8 sales came to 133 units
- X3 sales were up 59.2 percent to reach 4,978 units
- X4 sales came to 399 units
- X5 sales came to 6,245 units
- X6 sales came to 794 units
- Z4 sales came to 75 units
