At the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), BMW demonstrated its innovative new Organic Light Technology. The technology was displayed on the all-new BMW M4 that comes with optional Concept Iconic lights. This features in this new technology include special OLED headlights that are made from thin semiconducting layers of organic material that the light is emitted through.

In addition to the OLED headlights, this vehicle also offers Organic Light Technology in the tail lights and rear directional lights. This technology allows the beam of light to change shape in different driving modes by changing the layers through which the light is emitted. The transitional shape of the light is an L-shape, but in sport model, the name changes to a narrow “strip” of light through the use of fewer OLED segments.

The BMW M4, which will feature this technology as an available option is due to hit dealerships sometime in 2016. Watch the video above to learn more about how this technology works.
