Thick, sludgy oil makes your engine burn more energy which makes your fuel economy go down. Proper Tire Pressure Levels Are Key Keeping your tires at the proper inflation levels is a simple way to improve your gas mileage in the summer months. In fact, you can improve your gas mileage by up to 3% by keeping your tires at the proper PSI levels. Slow Down On The Road We’re all guilty of having a heavy foot when we’re out and about on the road. But we want you to slow down because every 5 MPH over 50 is like paying $0.20 per gallon. So slow down and travel the speed limit. Plus, slower speeds are safer! Don’t Keep Your Engine Idling We understand that in sweltering summer temperatures you’ll want to turn your vehicle on to get the A/C pumping before hitting the road. But this is making your gas gage drop by keeping your engine idling, meaning that you're wasting your own dollars and you’re not even going anywhere! Don’t Be An Aggressive Driver If you’re the type of driver that weaves in and out of traffic, speeds up and slows down erratically, we’re here to tell you to knock that off. In fact, rapid acceleration can negatively affect your highway fuel economy by up to 33%. And even your city economy by 5%. So slow down and take your time! This is often your tone of voice, language, gestures, or muscle tension. By catching your anger before it worsens, will prevent anger from turning into aggression/ road rage. Take time to calm down If you feel yourself feeling angry, pull over and take some time to calm down. Pull onto the shoulder, when it is safe to do so, and recollect your thoughts, take a few deep breaths before returning to the road. It’s better to be a few minutes late to your destination than being angry behind the wheel because of some knucklehead driver that cut you off. Drive defensively If you come across an aggravated driver, it’s best to let that person pass and be on their way. Keep your distance and be alert of any sudden changes that may occur on the road ahead of you. Don’t take your eyes off the road, tailgate or block traffic. Mind your business, stay focused, and get to where you are going! Resist retaliation If someone is driving slow or cuts you off, you may want to honk your horn, scream, or use profane gestures. Not only will this not help you but it will aggravate the other driver and can lead to potentially dangerous situations. Avoid these gestures, honking, flashing your high beams. You’re probably gearing up for one of your planned spring road trips. And while this is an exciting time for you and your family, I want to remind you that keeping your fuel tank full is a great option. Not only will it keep you from breaking down but it will also keep your vehicle in great shape. How? I know, you’re probably wondering how keeping a full tank of fuel will benefit your vehicle. And this week’s blog is dedicated to just that. So, buckle up and let’s get started on why running low on fuel is causing more damage to your vehicle than you thought. Sediment Implications Are Brutal: When you fill up the tank, sediments in the gasoline tend to settle toward the bottom of the tank. If you let your fuel levels run low, dirt and other sediments get stirred up from the bottom of the tank. Then, as your fuel pump is trying to pump gas into your engine, it’s sucking up the dirtiest gasoline in the tank filled with all those sediments. This mixture of dirty gasoline can end up in the engine or fuel line and will be a costly repair. If you engine clogs, your entire fuel line system will have to be flushed which again can be very costly. You’re Wearing Out The Pump: The gas you pump into your vehicle acts as a coolant for the electric fuel-pump motor and when you run low on fuel, this allows your fuel-pump to suck in air. What’s that mean? That means your fuel pump is running hot and can cause your fuel pump to wear out prematurely or eventually fail. This problem will happen over time but can be costly to repair or replace. Fuel Gauges Aren’t Always Accurate: Just because your fuel gauge says you have 30 miles to empty, don’t take the chance. Fuel gauges are known to not be 100% accurate and the precision of your gauge relies on various factors including your vehicle’s fuel economy and your driving style. Consider this as an estimate and not an exact mileage to empty. In short, running on empty puts you at risk of getting stranded or being in an accident when your vehicle suddenly stops in the roadway. So, just fill up. Ok? Your New BMW Is Waiting Right Here!

March is almost over and April is making its way in! While we’re excited for the spring months to finally be here, allergy season is also right around the corner. If you’re anything like me, allergies are a crippling thing to have especially in the springtime when you’re ready to get out and explore after being stuck inside all winter. This week we want to talk about allergy-proofing your vehicle. Are you ready? Let’s get started! Clean It The first and best way to start allergy-proofing your vehicle (and even your home) is to start with a clean slate. Yes, I know. More spring cleaning? Yup! You know just how dirty your vehicle can get, now think about how all that dirt, dust, and grime is only adding to your allergies. Gross! We recommend wiping down your dashboard, seating, and vents as often as possible using a damp microfiber cloth and a solution with little to no irritants. Vacuum your carpeting and be sure to clean and let your floor mats dry completely. Also, don’t be afraid to frequently stop by the car wash to rid your vehicle of any allergens on the exterior of your vehicle. Contain It Often times your clothing and shoes are the way allergens make their way into your vehicle, it’s a smart idea to remove the articles of clothing that have come in contact with those allergens if possible. We recommend storing them in a separate area and keep them confined. Also, keep your windows closed to keep allergens out. Go the extra mile to ensure that your weather stripping in intact and every window/ door shuts properly so allergens can’t creep in. Replace It If it’s been a while since you last replaced your air filters, it’s time to change them out now. Also, we recommend checking them once more after pollen season to ensure they are still in proper condition. Invest in all-weather floor mats to cut back on the number of allergens that make your carpeting their home. NEVER warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage. Make certain your tires are properly inflated to the correct PSI. Keeping your gas tank at least half full will avoid gas line freeze-up. DO NOT use cruise control when driving on any slippery surfaces (wet, ice, sand, etc.) Always look and steer where you want your vehicle to go. ALWAYS wear your seatbelt. Tips For Driving In Winter Weather Conditions: Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for gaining traction and avoiding skids, so accelerate and decelerate at a slow and steady pace. Take your time and drive slow. Each trip will take longer on snow-covered roads and a collision will only set you back in time. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as it does on dry pavement. So, give yourself a few extra minutes and a little extra space. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking. If you can avoid it, don’t stop. Especially on a hill - there is nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road and going nowhere because you have lost traction.
