Picking up poor driving habits is normal and easy. But breaking free of those bad habits can be tough. Especially if you’re not even aware of those habits. This week, we have your list of eight driving habits that need to be broken free and left in the dust. We have a lot of great incentives and offers waiting for you! Failing to signal. It's important to let other drivers and pedestrians know your next move so they can slow down and accommodate. We recommend signaling at least 100 feet in advance. Riding the brakes. Riding your brakes can cause excess strain on your brakes. Keep your foot off the brake and only use when/ if necessary. Rolling through stop signs. We know this is a habit many struggle with but to ensure everyone’s safety, it’s important to come to a complete stop at any and every intersection you approach. Slowing down to look at crashes or construction. Rubbernecking is not only dangerous, but can contribute to a chain reaction of slowed traffic and potential crashes. Keep your eyes on the road ahead of you to ensure you’re following road rules or police directions. Sudden stops. Always be on alert and anticipate when you might need to stop. Sudden stops will create excess wear on brake pads. Fast starts. Accelerate at a slow smooth rate, peeling away uses excess gas, and may be putting a strain on the key components of your engine. Running yellow or red lights. Doing so can increase your chance of a car crash. If the light turns yellow before you reach the intersection, it's best not to risk it and wait for the next green light. Disregarding the speed limit. While speed limits vary by state, and are typically posted, we recommend using the following ranges as a general guide if you don't see a posted speed limit: Residential area: 15-30 mph Undivided road (rural): 40-55 mph Divided road (rural): 55-70 mph Freeway: 55-65 mph Start Fresh In A New BMW!

Undercarriage Cleaning Many car owners always keep the visible parts of their vehicle clean and sparkly. But what about the undercarriage of your vehicle? While your vehicle’s undercarriage is always just inches off the ground, it’s important to clean up and get rid of any road-borne impurities that come in contact with your undercarriage. Especially with slush and road salt quickly approaching in the upcoming winter months. It’s important to clean it well, clean it often. Exterior Protection This is a little easier but still a task that takes a bit of elbow grease to complete and complete right. Impurities that lie hidden in moisture can lead to slowly eating away at your paint job, no matter how good it is. It’s important to ensure your car is waxed periodically and put that protective barrier between your paint and the elements! Interior cleaning Everything you tread on outside of your vehicle, always makes its way inside your car at one point or another. Making the most of a test drive is an important part of the vehicle buying process. This week we have put together a list of ways to make the most of your time with us and your potential new vehicle. Call Ahead - it’s a great idea to call ahead to either schedule a test drive with our team or to ensure that the vehicle you were hoping to test drive is still available at the dealership. Before You Drive -  before heading out for the test drive, take a few minutes to go over the features on the inside and check out the interior cabin. Having a list of features you were hoping for as a checklist can help greatly here. Take a look under the hood, in the trunk, the backseat - can you picture yourself in this vehicle? The available features are important to understand before moving further in the test drive. Drive Your Normal Route - most often, people don’t test drive the vehicle on their current route or roads they travel most often. This is important because it can help you get a feel for how the vehicle will perform on your most traveled routes. Be sure to test the brakes and accelerate gently up to speed a few times to test the driveline. We’re testing how the vehicle shifts. Does it feel smooth and natural? Around The Tires - once you arrive back, be sure to spend some time look at the tires and wheels that are currently on the vehicle. Are you gearing up and getting ready to hit the road this summer? Whether it’s a short trip or a longer one, we know some of you might be hitting the road with your best pal aka your pooch! And while this is exciting, it’s important to know a few things about keeping your pet safe and healthy along the way. Below we have some tips to help you out. We encourage you to put these to good use and of course, contact your vet before hitting the road - it’s important that your pet is cleared before heading out. Never leave your pet alone in the vehicle. Never. Ever. Repeat, never ever leave your pet alone in your vehicle. When traveling, plan your bathroom stops in dog-friendly places like pet stores. Make sure your vehicle is ready for the trip. Whether you just stopped in to have service or it’s been some time, make sure that everything seems to be in proper working order. The last thing you need is to be dealing with a breakdown or broken AC along the way. Start early in the day. While summer temperatures are high in the mornings too, it’s a great idea to start the day early while temperatures are at their lowest. Take your pet for a walk or a little exercise while the temperatures are still bearable. Freeze water. Freezing your water the night before offers cooler drinks the next day. While we recommend freezing two water bottles for you and your pet, we also recommend keeping a few bottles that are not frozen. And we recommend packing twice as much water as you think you’ll need - a good rule of thumb. Offer water often. Sometimes when traveling we forget to take a drink of water and if we’re forgetting, so is our pet. So it’s important to offer water often to ensure they are staying hydrated throughout the day. Also, grab a collapsible water bowl, they offer convenience and are easy to clean. Beware of the pavement. When temperatures are climbing, the asphalt temperature is hot as well. When you stop to hop out for a potty break or to stretch the legs, look for shady areas with grass. This will keep your pet from burning their paws. If you can’t find a grassy area, spread a towel on the ground to protect their paws while stretching or pour some water on the ground to cool it off. Watch out for signs of heat stress. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are very dangerous conditions that even our pets can suffer from. Look out for lethargy, vomiting, agitation, uncontrollable panting, foaming at the mouth, and tongue and gums that turn from red to blue to gray. In addition to checking up on the coolant fluid levels, it’s important to check the state of the hoses and the coolant reservoir. Any leaks should be addressed as soon as possible. And hoses should be firm. Windshield wipers While it is summer, it is bound to rain at a point to help cool things off. That means you need a good set of wipers that will keep excess water off your windshield and your vision clear. A good habit to start is checking on your wipers every time you stop for gas or change them every oil change. Engine belts Over time your engine belt can become loose, deteriorate, and start to squeal. It’s important to have your engine belt checked to ensure there are no cracks, missing pieces, and that there is the right amount of tension. Tires While you should be checking your tires year-round, summer is a great time to ensure that tire pressure levels are correct and you still have a good amount of tread still. Summer is the season of road trips, so it’s important to keep up to date with your tires. Plus, be sure to check up on your spare tire as well. Air Filters Winter is known for clogging your windshield-washer nozzle and your car’s air filters. So, when summer hits, it’s important to make sure these areas are clean and ready to go.
