MotorWeek has released another episode from its Retro Reviews series, which ads on the show’s YouTube page. Through this series, MotorWeek has been releasing videos of reviews that they conducted on vehicles back in the earlier years of the show. The episode that we are sharing with you here is a review on the 1993 BMW 525i Touring Wagon. Throughout the video MotorWeek offers a look into several of this model’s standout features both inside and outside, including the ability to open the back door glass separate from the door for easier storage of smaller items, rear fold-down seats, hidden trunk storage, large front doors, cargo area safety nets and power panoramic roof. MotorWeek also shows off the 1993 525i Touring Wagon’s driving capabilities with a series of standard tests that include brake, acceleration, curving and more.

The BMW brand has been showcasing the stories of different individuals whose dedication and enthusiasm for the BMW lineup has helped make it the impressive automaker that it is today. This series is called #BMWStories and the individuals featured in it include a mixture of BMW enthusiasts and employees who have developed a special bond with the brand. In one of the newest stories shared in the series, we are introduced to Annabelle who is a professional scent maker from France who worked on the team that developed the new line of scents for the BMW 7 Series. For Annabelle, the journey that led her to BMW is one that began when she was just a child. Growing up she was always fascinated by scents and wanted to learn more about why objects smell the way that they do. Once she was older she found out that this was something she could actually build a career out of and went on to study at the acclaimed ISIPCA school studying perfume development. After a few years of studying, Annabelle decided to challenge herself by changing the direction of her career to focus on perfumes in cars, which led her to her current position with BMW. For the past three years, Annabelle and her team worked to create a specialized line of scents that will be available to owners who purchase the new 7 Series. Earlier this month, BMW posted a video taking a look at Josef Bücherl, chief instructor, and head of the BMW Driving Experience. He joined BMW in 1976 when they came to him and asked him to take over the driver training at BMW. He organized driver training across the world and is still working today. He loves what he does because he feels that it keeps him young and he’ll keep working until his health prevents him from working anymore. To hear it from Josef himself, check out the video. Recently BMW released their reports for June 2015 sales. Overall, the BMW brand saw a 6.5 percent increase in June sales to reach 32,176 total sales. A significant increase from the 30,201 vehicles that they sold in June 2014. “There’s no better follow-up to a record May than a record June with the numbers showing a consistent momentum for BMW as the year reaches the half-way point,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “It’s clear the U.S. is more in love with light trucks than ever before and the hardest part is supplying the demand.  At the same time, I am delighted to see MINI gaining more traction as model availability continues to increase.” Specific vehicles saw extremely strong increases including the BMW 2 Series which saw a 56.9 percent increase, the BMW 4 Series which had an increase in sales of 69.4 percent, and the BMW X5 which saw an amazing 89.0 percent increase. On top of that, BMW motorcycles saw a record-setting 83.3 percent increase in sales from the year before, leading to 2.433 motorcycles sold in June.

Three different BMW models were named as the top model in their segment in the 2015 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). J.D. Power selects the model rankings in this study by using customer responses regarding their experiences  with their new models within the first 90 days following their lease or purchase. Overall, over 84,000 customers participated in the survey between February - May of 2015. When it comes to building engines BMW is not a company to underestimate, and their four wins in the most recent International Engine of the Year Awards is a testament to their abilities. The BMW i8’s drive unit was awarded two wins in its class along with being the overall winner. Wins by the BMW M3 engine and BMW M4 engine helped to establish their positions of power. Thanks to its three-cylinder, BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, the BMW i8 unit won class winner and the whole drive unit was awarded as the best “new engine”, largely thanks to its electric motor and petrol engine. The BMW M3 and BMW M4 M TwinPower six-cylinder in-line petrol engines also took home first place in the 2.5 to 3.0-litre displacement category. This year’s success in a variety of categories only bolsters the prosperous potential of the Efficient Dynamics technology package, which has consistently improved both fuel efficiency and driving pleasure. The International Engine of the Year Awards started in 1999 and since then BMW has taken home 66 class and overall wins for their models engines. The winners are chosen by a large panel of 65 motor journalists from 31 different countries who meticulously collaborate to determine which engines are superior.
