How To Drive Successfully In The Rain This April! | Flemington, NJ

Happy Spring! Everyone knows that April is infamous for wet weather and we want to help you and your BMW get prepared for what’s to come! This week, we have put together a list of things to ensure you know when it comes to driving in the rain and things you should be watching out for. We encourage you to take some time to freshen up on these tips and put them to good use. Oh, and don’t forget to snag a service offer and schedule an appointment to ensure that your BMW is healthy and happy to take on all of your spring road trips! We hope to see you soon! Wait Until The Weather Clears If you don’t feel comfortable behind the wheel during rain showers, postpone your travels and wait until the weather clears before heading out. There is no reason to put yourself in dangerous situations if not necessary. Double Check Your Vehicle It’s important to check your vehicle’s health year-round, but when it comes to April showers, we want to be looking for specific things. For example, we need to check our head and tail lights, windshield wipers, and our tires to ensure they’re not balding. Bald tires can reduce traction on wet roadways. Slow It Down As you should always adhere to the posted speed limit, when the roadway is wet, this is crucial. We encourage you to drive considerably slower since wet roads are dangerous and your vehicle reacts slower when it rains. Maintain A Safe Distance Between Cars As we said above, your vehicle reacts slower when it rains so it’s important to give yourself a little extra space between vehicles. You should leave several car lengths between you and the vehicle you are following. Avoid Standing Water Driving your vehicle through standstill water can cause hydroplaning and other dangerous situations for your vehicle. If you approach a puddle, wait for other vehicles to pass and avoid the area by changing lanes or steering around. Schedule Your Service Appointment Today!

Five Service Tips To Get Your BMW Spring Ready! | Flemington, NJ

Welcome back to another week of helpful BMW information! This week we are discussing all things spring service! Spring will officially be here at the end of the week and that probably means that you’re thinking about taking a road trip or an adventure behind the wheel of your beloved BMW. Before you hit the road, we encourage you to hurry in and have your vehicle serviced. The winter season is known for doing damage to your vehicle and it’s important to get the green light from our service team before hitting the road! Let’s get started on those springtime service tips! Wash Your Ride As temperatures are warming up, it’s important to visit the car wash and treat your vehicle to a little TLC. Make sure to wash the undercarriage of your vehicle to get rid of any winter buildup and debris. It’s also a great idea to have the interior of your vehicle detailed to ensure a fresh, clean start to spring. Check Your Battery Wintertime is known for making batteries weak and it’s important to have your battery tested to ensure its health. Also, if your battery is older than four years old, it’s a good rule of thumb to invest in a new one. Fill Up The Fluids During the winter, your vehicle’s fluids tend to drain easily and quickly. And with spring around the corner, you should be stopping in to have your fluids topped off and be sure you have plenty of windshield washer fluid too. Inspect & Align Your Tires Winter driving can be brutal on your tires and it’s important to ensure that there are no leaks, bulges, and lack of tread on your tires. Stop in and allow our team to inspect your tires, fill up to proper PSI levels, rotate and align them. Get Under The Hood While we’re at it, pop open the hood (when cold) and give everything underneath a good look over. Inspect hoses, belts, caps, air filters, and make sure they are not cracked or damaged. If they are, be sure to schedule an appointment and have them replaced as soon as possible. Also, make sure your air filters are replaced so your air conditioning is ready when warm weather is officially here. Schedule Your Service Today!

Keep Calm & Drive Smooth In The Snow With These Tips! | Flemington, NJ

Snow, snow, and some more snow! While you’re still digging out at home, we’re starting to dig out at the dealership. But we still want to help you conquer the snow once you’re finally dug out. On this week’s blog, you will find a few snow driving tips that will aid you this winter. We encourage you to refresh and learn these tips if they’re new to you and hurry on over to our service scheduler to schedule your next service appointment to ensure that your BMW is ready for the last few weeks of winter! Let’s get started on those driving tips first though! Drive Smooth Be deliberate, gentle, and gradual. It’s important to drive smoothly and make no jerky movements that can cause an accident slip on the road. A good life hack is to pretend you’re driving with a hot cup of coffee in your lap and you don’t want to spill it. Look Ahead & Look Here When roads get more slippery, you should be looking farther down the road and anticipate what to do next. If there are turns, slow way down. When roads are wet, allow double the stopping distance and triple with snow, and even more with ice. Use extra caution and concentration. If you feel your vehicle beginning to slide, always look where you want your vehicle to go, not where it’s heading at the current moment. Deal With Skids When skids happen, it’s important not to panic, stay calm, and don’t stab on the brakes. For a front-wheel skid, ease off the gas, in a moment or two, the wheels should regain traction. Then aim where you want to go as your traction returns. For rear skids, quickly turn the steering wheel in the same direction the rear is sliding. Ease off the gas and brakes. Steer back in the original direction when you regain traction. Constantly Assess Traction During a snowy/ icy drive, it’s important to continuously assess your traction situation. If your vehicle is equipped with ABS systems, traction-control systems, or stability-control systems, your vehicle is more likely to have a successful trip. But don’t rely strictly on these systems. It’s important to stay vigilant and cautious when on the road. Schedule Your Service Today!

Emergency Kit: It’s always a good idea to be prepared in the event of an emergency, especially in the winter months. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, warm hat, gloves, and extra socks in your vehicle. It’s a good idea to keep a blanket, phone charger, flashlight, bottle of water, and a small non perishable snack. Stop Foggy Windows: Foggy windows are no stranger in the winter season. And they can lead to potentially dangerous situations. Roll down your windows to quickly defog those windows or keep a clean chalkboard eraser in your vehicle to wipe away the fog. Keep Yourself From Getting Stuck: If your vehicle is a little on the lighter side, we encourage you to place a few bags of kitty litter in the back of your vehicle or trunk. This will aid in traction in the rear of your vehicle. And also keep a small shovel in the event you get stuck. Keep The Underside Of Your Vehicle Clean: It’s important to keep your vehicle clean all year long, but it’s especially important to keep the underside of your vehicle clean during the winter. Dirt, salt, and ice can accumulate underneath and cause erosion. Get a car wash on a warmer day and park your vehicle in the garage. Avoid Frozen Wiper Blades: Whether it’s a little snow or ice, no one likes frozen over wiper blades. We recommend leaving your wiper blades propped up when your vehicle is in park or place a pair of socks over the blades to keep them from freezing. Find Your New BMW Here!

Your Guide For Spring Driving Safety | Flemington, NJ

Spring is here and so are our spring driving tips! Take a look at them below and be sure to put them to good use this spring season whether your travels are going to take you near or far! And if you’re ready to upgrade and adventure in a new BMW, come see our team this March! Share the road with others Spring is known for warm temperatures and everyone’s excited to get outside and feel a little warmth. With that being said, we need to be mindful that we’re once again sharing the road with others including animals, children, and motorcyclists. Be attentive that there’s a lot going on around you now and slow down if necessary. Spring showers bring spring flooding It’s no secret that spring seems to be the wettest season of them all. And when it first starts to rain, that’s when the roads are most slippery. Why? Well, from oil and grease on the road mixed with water, the road becomes slippery. So, decrease your speed and increase your following distance. Inspect your tires As we said, spring is known for rain and if your tires are old and worn, you’re putting yourself in a dangerous situation due to improper tire tread mixed with wet roads. It’s important to inspect your tires, maintain proper PSI levels, and replace your tires when it’s needed. Keep an eye out for potholes Potholes are horrible and in the springtime, they seem to be at their worst. It’s very important to slow down and keep an eye out for them because they can and will cause expensive damage to your vehicle including bent wheels, punctured tires, poor alignment, suspension damage, and more! Don’t Push It - Why It’s Important To Fill Up Your Tank! | Flemington, NJ

Being behind the wheel of a BMW means that you need to know what will help you get the most out of that vehicle. This week we want to talk about how driving on empty can cause damage to your vehicle and how far you can drive when your fuel light illuminates. Check it out below and if you have further questions, stop in to see our team today! We are more than happy to help you and answer any questions you may have about your BMW’s efficiency or about it in general. We hope to see you soon! How far can I drive on empty? Depending on your driving habits, current conditions, and your vehicle really results in how far you can drive once your empty fuel light illuminates. You may be surprised how few miles you can travel once your light is on and we recommend reading your owner’s manual for answers. And also, don’t push it. It’s better to fill up the tank when you only have ¼ of a tank left! Is it dangerous to drive with the low fuel warning light on? When this light illuminates, you’re starting to run the chance that your vehicle could run out of gas, which is not only a hassle but it puts you into a dangerous situation especially if you’re out on the highway or in remote locations. It’s also dangerous for your vehicle. Running low or completely out of gas can cause damage to your catalytic converter which may need to be repaired or replaced. When you run low on fuel, the contaminants or debris that have sunk to the bottom of your tank are now being sucked into your fuel pump. This can also cause issues that will end up being expensive to repair. How trusty is your distance to empty? Most modern vehicles have a distance to empty gauge but this is a dangerous practice if you try to wait until the very last mile. The distance to empty is simply a mere estimate and not a definitive answer to how many miles you have left. So depending on current driving conditions, the actual mileage could vary. Winter Service Tips To Keep Your BMW Happy! | Flemington, NJ

Thinking of ways to keep you BMW happy and healthy during this winter season? Don’t stress. Just follow our tips below to ensure the health of your BMW these next few months! Whether you’ve stayed on top of your routine maintenance or you’ve forgotten about it, we encourage you to stop in and schedule a service appointment to have your ride checked up on! Let’s get started! Swap out regular tires for tires designed for winter weather. Snow or not, if you will be traveling to areas where the temperatures fall below 45 degrees, you’ll want to have winter tires. These tires are designed to give better traction while traveling on the cold pavement. Check your tire pressure regularly. Driving around on uninflated tires can cause them to wear at a quicker rate and will affect the traction on slippery surfaces. With every 10-degree drop, your tires will lose a pound of pressure. Always keep a half tank full of gas. No matter the weather it’s a great idea to ensure that you have enough gas in case of an emergency. This is especially in the winter as winter weather starts to take a toll on our vehicles and we could end up in a snowy situation. Add a protective layer to your vehicle. Salt, grime, snow, sleet, and more can cause damage to your vehicle. We recommend adding a coat of polymer wax to create a buffer to keep your vehicle safe. Also, wash off any buildup after winter storms. Protect your wipers at all costs. When parking outdoors, leave your wipers raised to prevent them from freezing to your windshield. And never use your wipers to remove snow or ice from your windshield, use an ice scraper instead. Schedule Your Service Appointment Here!
